What are comets made of?

  • Comets
  • Composition of comets
  • Comet tails

Comets are made of ice, dust, and small rocky particles. The ice is mostly water ice, but can also include other volatile substances like carbon dioxide and methane. The dust and rocky particles make up the solid core of the comet. Comets also have a glowing coma and a tail when they get close to the Sun.
