What is an asteroid belt?

An asteroid belt is a region of space between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter where many asteroids are found. These asteroids are remnants from the early solar system. They are made up of rock and metal and vary in size from small boulders to large objects several hundred kilometers in diameter.
